Battery Safety
  • Risk Factors:  All battery chemistries can cause fire, explosion and severe burns if used improperly.  Do not mix battery types, crush or modify.
  • Lithium Ion:   Do not connect different lot codes together in the same circuit. Do not remove safety circuitry.
  • Lithium:Do not mix used and fresh lots.  Do not recharge or expose to water. Do not solder directly to cells. Lithium primary batteries cannot be shipped on passenger aircraft.For California shipments only: “CR” type lithium cells contain perchlorate material. The following statement may be needed on the package - “Perchlorate Material-special handling may apply, see www.dtsc.ca.gov/hazardouswaste/perchlorate.” 
  • Lead-Acid:  Battery posts, terminals, compounds, and related accessories may contain lead. Wash hands after handling. For California shipments only-Contains chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer and reproductive harm.
  • Nickel Cadmium (NiCd) and Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH):  For California shipments only- Contains chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer. NiCd is also known to the state of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm.
